2012 is shaping up to be a year with many ridiculously awesome movies to be released. Following the horribly disappointing 2011, this year has more major films releasing than there are weeks in the year – over 60! With all those to choose from, it’s hard to pick my most anticipated. So I’ve comprised a short list of the movies I can’t wait to see that you may not have heard of yet.
WORLD WAR Z – December 21, 2012 (There is no trailer yet, but click here for some footage taken during filming.)
Based on Max Brooks’ best-selling novel, this film starring Brad Pitt is not at all in the first person/documentary style of the book. But I’m hoping this adaptation will still have an original take on the zombie genre. It fucking better. Plus, it’s supposed the the first of a trilogy. Heck yes.
Cast: Brad Pitt, Eric West, Matthew Fox, David Morse, James Badge Dale, Mireille Enos
You don’t need to know much about this biopic to want desperately to see it.
Directed by Steven Spielberg.
One hell of a cast: Daniel Day-Lewis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jared Harris, Lee Pace, Tommy Lee Jones James Spader, Jackie Earle Haley, Sally Field, John Hawkes, Walton Goggins
TOTAL RECALL - August 3, 2012
This remake of the 1990 classic moves the story in an entirely different, albeit good direction (although no Mars.) The new Colin Farrell version is a grittier and more realistic take on the near future. It’s supposed to be awesome. The cast is, that’s for sure.
Cast: Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale, Bryan Cranston, Bill Nighy, Ethan Hawke
Merry Xmas! Quinton Tarantino’s Django Unchained is a spaghetti western revenge flick about a freed slave trained to be a bounty hunter from his mentor, who goes on a mission to save his enslaved wife. I can’t fucking wait for the dialogue in this mother fucker.
Amazing ensemble Cast: Jamie Foxx, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Sacha Baron Cohen, Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz, Kurt Russell – HOLY SHIT!
And finally two you’ve most likely heard of – but they’re just so fucking cool I had to remind you.
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES – July 20, 2012
There’s no question that Christopher Nolan can pull off this conclusion to his Batman story, even with the super high expectations and pressure he has to follow his amazing Dark Knight. Few movies in history have earned this much excitement and anticipation – fewer still have actually delivered on it. If anyone can, Nolan can.
Cast: Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard
PROMETHEUS – June 8, 2012
Ridley Scott’s Prometheus is kinda-sorta a prequel to Alien. There is much mystery surrounding this film, so like everyone else, the concept itself is enough to make me want to see this one bad. It’s been a long time since this type of movie of this caliber was out – way too long.
Cast: Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Patrick Wilson, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce
(Joseph Gordon-Levitt knows how to pick ‘em!)
